As a result of the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, a Door Supervision licence is required when security guarding activities (manned security or physical security) and a Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence is required when manned guiding activities are carried out through the use of closed circuit television equipments to monitor the activities of a member of the public or private place; or to identify a particular person are carried out.

Combined Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (QCF) and Level 2 Award for Working as a CCTV Operator (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security Industry (QCF) – SIA-approved course

 

As a result of the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, a Door Supervision licence is required when security guarding activities (manned security or physical security) and a Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence is required when manned guiding activities are carried out through the use of closed circuit television equipments to monitor the activities of a member of the public or private place; or to identify a particular person are carried out.

So, to gain both the Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry (QCF) and Level 2 Award for Working as a CCTV Operator (Public Space Surveillance) within the Private Security Industry (QCF), and in order to obtain licences, learner will need to attend a training course for a minimum of 32.5 (DS) and 23 (CCTV) contact hours – as stipulated by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) – and pass the examination in all modules.

The Combined Level 2 Door Supervision and Level 2 Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) SIA-approved courses, which contain four (DS) and three (CCTV) compulsory modules, are delivered at various centres/venues across London. The courses have been designed to be completed in 7 days over a four-week period – e.g.:

Week 1: Monday-Wednesday (Door Supervision or CCTV theory)

Week 2: Monday – Door Supervision (Physical Intervention and Exams) or CCTV Practical and Exams

Week 3: Wednesday – depends on Door Supervision or CCTV result. No training if result is favourable

Week 4: Monday-Wednesday CCTV/Door Supervision (Theory, Practical (CCTV) or PI (DS) & Exams)

The Combined Level 2 Door Supervision and Level 2 Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) SIA-approved courses can be undertaking by learners aged 18 and over.

Structure of Course

Modules covered are:

  2. Module 2 – Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
  3. Module 3 – Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
  4. Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry

Assessment method is by Examination
Module 1 – Working within the Private Security Industry

  • 40-question multiple-choice written examination
  • To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40 questions
  • Examination is for 1 hour

Module 2 – Working as a Door Supervisor

  • 45-question multiple-choice written examination.
  • To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 32 out of 45 questions
  • Examination is for 1 hour 15 minutes

Module 3 – Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry

  • 20-question multiple-choice written examination.
  • To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 14 out of 20.
  • Examination is for 30 minutes.

Module 4 – Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry

  • Practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course by experienced tutor.
  • The tutor will mark 10 true or false questions at the end of this module.

Assessment method is by Practical Assessment and Written Examination

Module 1 – Working within the Private Security Industry is assessed by:

  • A 40-question multiple-choice written examination
  • To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of  40 questions
  • Examination is for 1 hour.

Module 2 – Working as a CCTV operator within the Private Security Industry is assessed by:

  • A 45-question multiple-choice written examination
  • To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 28 out of 40 questions
  • Examination is for 1 Hour.

Module 3 – Practical operation of CCTV equipment within the Private Security Industry is assessed by the tutor and externally moderated by the Awarding Bodies.

Condition of Entry

There are no prerequisites for attending this course. However, it is advised that candidates have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent before enrolment.
